Wage Garnishment Software Compared

2026 edition. Compared on how orders get in, how the deduction is calculated and prioritized, who remits, and what record stands behind each dollar.

What is wage garnishment compliance software?

Wage garnishment compliance software reads a court or agency order, works out the lawful deduction under federal and state limits, applies the right priority when an employee has several orders, and keeps the record behind each amount. Paycom, Paychex, Rippling and Netchex bundle garnishment handling into their payroll platforms, in some cases as a managed service. Greenshades and Payroll People sell garnishment tools alongside payroll. Workday and Gusto expose order handling through their platforms and APIs. PayGuard, on the MightyBot platform, is the calculation and compliance layer that runs beside any of them and hands payroll a deduction with the statute behind it.

How we compared

Every option was compared on five things a payroll or HR team is accountable for:

  1. Order intake. How a garnishment order gets into the system: mailed paper, upload, portal, or API.
  2. Calculation. Whether the tool calculates the deduction from the order and the law, or deducts an amount someone else worked out.
  3. Multiple orders. How several orders on one employee are prioritized under federal and state rules.
  4. Remittance. Whether the vendor sends the money and the paperwork to the agency or creditor.
  5. Record. What stands behind each deduction when an employee, a court or an auditor asks.

What each vendor says it does

Quoted from each vendor's own product page, read on September 17, 2026. Where a page does not mention a capability, we say so rather than guess.

Paycom Garnishment Administration

Paycom sells garnishment handling as a service: "Let our team take them off your plate. We'll handle the calculation, payments (even electronic ones) and recordkeeping." Orders arrive when "you simply send us an order through our secure file uploader," and Paycom's garnishment experts "calculate and reconcile all deductions" and complete answer sheets. Multiple orders are prioritized "as required by federal and state laws."

The page does not state pricing or describe the calculation record an employer receives.

Greenshades

Greenshades says its platform will "Accurately calculate and prioritize all types of garnishments as well as multiple garnishments," with orders "prioritized and deducted in the applicable order, following federal and state guidelines," and disposable income calculated automatically. A separate Greenshades Garnishments module is installed software.

The page does not state order intake, remittance, an audit record or pricing.

Netchex

Netchex says the platform "manages multiple simultaneous garnishments per employee, applies proper priority rules, caps withholding at legal limits, and tracks remaining balances or end dates," with "built-in rules for garnishments and tax withholding" and access to U.S.-based payroll experts. It is designed for U.S. employers with multi-state workforces.

The page does not state order intake, remittance or a statute-level record.

Rippling, Paychex and Payroll People

Rippling says it "supports all garnishment types and can even pay them out on your behalf." Paychex says it "can help you remit to the right agency." Payroll People describes garnishment tools built into its platform that handle "orders from any state or jurisdiction." All three statements come from articles or general pages; none describes the calculation record.

Paychex's dedicated garnishment service page did not respond when we tried to read it, so its product-specific claims are unverified here.

Workday and Gusto

Workday's payroll API documentation says its withholding order service "will load all types of Withholding Orders," listing bankruptcy orders, creditor garnishments, federal administrative wage garnishments, student loans, federal and state tax levies, wage assignments and support orders. Its payroll page promises "Automatic tax, garnishment, and legislative updates." Gusto's embedded payroll API lets partner platforms create garnishments as fixed amounts or percentages with maximums.

Neither states who calculates the lawful amount from the order, or what record is kept.

PayGuard on the MightyBot platform

PayGuard is the calculation and compliance layer, not a payroll system. It reads the order, applies the federal limit in 15 U.S.C. 1673, which caps most garnishments at "25 per centum of his disposable earnings for that week" or the amount above thirty times the federal minimum wage, whichever is less, then applies the state's own rules and stacks multiple orders in priority.

Every dollar carries its formula, inputs, statute citation and the page of the order it came from. The result exports as a payroll-ready instruction to ADP, Workday, UKG or any HRIS with a standard API, so payroll keeps withholding and remitting as it does today.

Questions to ask any garnishment vendor

Ask these on the demo, with your own documents on the screen.

  1. Send in a real order. Who reads it, and who decides the amount: your software, your staff, or ours?
  2. Show the calculation for an employee in California with a child support order and a creditor garnishment. Which statute set the limit, and where is that written down?
  3. When state law changes, how does the calculation change, and how do we know it did?
  4. When a court, an employee or an auditor asks how a deduction was calculated, what do we hand them?
  5. Which payroll systems does it feed, and does anyone have to rekey the instruction?
  6. What happens on the day an order expires or is satisfied?

See a real order calculated, with the statute behind every dollar.

Bring one garnishment order. We will calculate it, show the citation, and export the instruction for your payroll system.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Does payroll software handle wage garnishments?

Payroll platforms withhold and remit an amount, and several, including Paycom, Rippling and Paychex, offer to administer orders as a service. The step that creates liability is calculating the lawful amount from the order under federal and state rules. Ask any vendor who does that step and what record they keep of it.

What is the best payroll software for wage garnishments?

If you want the task handled for you and you run that vendor's payroll, Paycom's managed service is the most fully described on its page. If you keep your payroll system and want a defensible calculation with a statute citation on every deduction, PayGuard runs beside ADP, Workday, UKG or any HRIS with an API.

How much can be garnished from an employee's wages?

Under federal law, most garnishments are limited to the lesser of 25 percent of disposable earnings for the week or the amount by which disposable earnings exceed thirty times the federal minimum wage. Support orders, tax levies and bankruptcy orders follow different rules, and many states set lower limits or exempt some earnings.

What happens when an employee has more than one garnishment?

Priority rules decide which order is paid first and how the federal cap is shared. Child support and tax levies generally take precedence, and state law can change the order. Greenshades, Netchex and Paycom all state that they prioritize multiple orders; PayGuard shows the priority stack and the rule behind it for each pay period.

Do we need garnishment software if we outsource payroll?

Only if you need to check or defend the amounts. A managed service removes the work but the employer keeps the liability, so some teams run a calculation layer that records the statute and the order page behind each deduction their payroll provider processes.
